April 2017 Newsletter

Glo's World

Spring is here, and things are starting to heat up!

While the weather outside my office remains distinctly grey, damp and chilly; that is certainly not the case business wise.  March was a bumper month for myself and my acts and our themed evenings have proved particularly popular.

The Magic of Motown

Many music genres seem to come and go, but Motown Classics are an enduring favourite for most age groups.  Our Motown-themed Charity Fundraiser at Tiger Tiger in Portsmouth, was great fun and raised over £1,300 for Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation.

I also performed my Motown Show at the Langstone Hotel on Hayling Island alongside our terrific party band, Move On Up.  This event sold out so quickly that the hotel has booked us to run a repeat performance on 5th May 2017.

Las Vegas Nights

We also organised one of our popular Vegas Night for the Langstone Hotel toward the end of the month. This show captures the atmosphere and energy of Vegas, complete with glamourous  showgirls and the silky-smooth crooning of a classic Vegas vocalist.  For the Langstone Hotel event there was an appearance from the fabulous Supremely, Diana Ross and Elvis was indeed in the building!

Here are some of the Themed Nights we offer:

Gatsby Glamour - Take a trip back in time to those heady heydays of the 1920’s and 1930’s, when flappers were all the rage and excess was the name of the game.  This high energy, foot tapping show, complete with either a male or female vocalist and optional Charleston lesson, will have your guests up on the dance floor strutting their stuff in no time.

Songs of 007 - No other film franchise has created so many classic hits as the Bond Movie series, and they make a fantastic musical backdrop for a special night out.  A 007 themed evening is the perfect opportunity for the men to dust off their tuxedos and bow ties while their ladies make a splash in high heels and slinky sequins.

At Gloria Miller Entertainment, we can arrange a stunning selection of crowd-pleasing themed evenings to suit any occasion, be it a special birthday party, a corporate event or a public dinner show in a hotel.

Gloria Miller Pays Tribute to Vera Lynn!

Forces' Sweetheart, Vera Lynn, turned 100 on 20th March 2017, and as part of the nationwide celebrations, Gloria performed many of Vera’s iconic, sing-a-long classics at a special solo concert for the residents of Chalfont Court Nursing Home in Rickmansworth.

“I don’t usually sing Dame Vera’s songs, but I love a challenge. So, when I was approached about this event, I jumped at it. It’s been fun learning these fabulous songs, and performing them in front of an audience for whom they meant so much was extra special.   It was wonderful to hear so many of these lovely people singing along, and a few even got up and danced!”

Bootleg Blondie – The Official Blondie Tribute Band

There are lots of Tribute Bands out there, but few are endorsed by the original band members.  Bootleg Blondie are one of those who have been.

They have wowed Blondie fans at festivals and venues across Europe, but their most memorable gig has got to be playing CBGB’s in New York in 2006. When Debbie Harry heard that they were playing at the home of US Punk, she sent them a message to wish them well.

They look and sound so much like the real thing it’s uncanny.  Relive all those dance-along hits from the 1970s and 1980s including Denis, The Tide is High, Sunday Girl, Call Me, and Atomic.  Bootleg Blondie are available either as the full band or as a duo show.

Check out the Bootleg Blondie show Reel now.
