May 2017 Newsletter

Glo's World

Welcome to the May edition of Glo’s world. It’s been a busy month both on the performance front and on bringing in new acts. We’ve added five new tribute acts including Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, Kylie, Adele and The Beach Boys.  I don’t have space to feature them all here, but you can find them all on the Acts page of my website.

Debut Single Becomes Global Autism Anthem

I am so proud of one of my most in-demand acts, Rachael Hawnt. Rachael and her singing partner Ashley Cutler perform together as The Beautiful Secret, and their debut album was officially launched in Portsmouth in April.

The single from that album is called “What’s Inside” and was recently chosen as the global anthem for World Autism Awareness Week. Rachael’s niece, Katie-Rae, has Asperger’s Syndrome, a condition on the autism spectrum. The song’s lyrics reflect her descriptions of the way she perceives the world. All proceeds from sales of the single will go to the National Autistic Society.

My husband and I were privileged to attend the sell-out launch concert for the album at The New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth in April and were blown away by the quality of the singing, the lyrics and the music – wow! It’s no wonder the album sold-out on Amazon after the show.

Katie-Rae was also there and said afterwards “I hope that the song would be able to reach out to people and increase awareness of Autism.”

You can find out more about the single and the album from The Beautiful Secret’s Facebook Page.

Never Give Up! Never Ever Give Up!

So said Winston Churchill, and it's true.  As an entertainment agent, I speak to lots of venues about the power of live music to attract and retain new customers. Some get it right away, but others take a little longer to see the benefits. This was the case with a restaurant in Port Solent called The Hot Rock. I’d been talking to them for more than 12 months and had all but given up when I got a call to say that they were ready to give it a go.  They booked my Motown Show for 6th April, and everybody in the restaurant had a fabulous night. The Hot Rock are now planning monthly music nights, and I am looking forward to performing there again in the Summer.

Ding Dong The Bells are Going To Chime!

Planning the perfect wedding is one of the biggest projects most people will ever take on.  There are so many things to think about that it’s all too easy for essential items to get left until the last minute, often with disastrous consequences.

We frequently get phone calls from flustered brides trying to book a favourite wedding band only to discover that they were already booked by someone else months ago! To prevent situations like this, I’ve put together a useful article, packed full of hints and tips, designed to ensure that you get the perfect music for your wedding.

P.S. We are the preferred wedding entertainment supplier for South Downs Manor, a fabulous wedding venue near Petersfield. Come and meet us at their special Wedding Open Day on 7th May!  Click here to find out more.

Memories Are Made Of This

When I lived in the US, I enjoyed singing for the residents of several local retirement homes. Recently I’ve started doing the same here in the UK. This month I performed at the Oak Lodge Nursing Home in Southampton, singing a selection of sing-a-long favourite from the 40s-60s.  Music from our youth always seems to unlock so many happy memories, and I love to see the residents' faces light up when they hear their favourite songs.

During my set, I noticed a gentlemen get up on his feet to dance with one of the lovely staff members and was later told that this gentlemen never participates in any of the activities and tends to stick to himself. They were so amazed and thrilled at his reaction to the music, and it was a reminder to me just how powerful music can be.

Act of the Month

Bupsi

This month I am delighted to feature another of my acts who has recently launched her debut single.  Bupsi’s career took off after appearing on the X Factor 2015 and since then she has been in high demand by venues and events around the UK. Originally a Tina Turner tribute performer, Bupsi has recently reinvented herself into a fierce, super sexy, solo singer with a unique style.  She looks and sounds amazing!  Don’t take my word for it, check out Bupsi’s new single “Turn it Up”.

P.S. It’s also available on iTunes

If you’d like to book Bupsi for your event, get in touch today to avoid disappointment! She continues to perform all your favourite covers and of course, her new hit single!
