GME News - January, 2016

Editor's Note

Happy New Year! I don’t know about you, but it was very hard for me to get back into work mode after having two fabulous weeks off for the Holiday Season. Even though I wasn’t working in the office, I did have a few local shows and a couple that had me on the road travelling across the UK. My Acts were busy too spreading Christmas cheer in venues from Portsmouth to Blackpool and from Bradford to Lee-on-Solent.

A couple highlights for me was my Motown/Soul Night that I performed at Owens in Southsea on 27 December. GME Acts Marlene Hill and Gemma Anderson popped in to show their support and have a bit of a boogie; another fun show was a last minute booking I picked up earlier in the month for a Ladies Day Christmas event at Restaurant 69. I performed my Motown & Disco Divas sets to a very glamourous and rowdy group of women … LOL! We had a fab time.

Elvis was in the building for a couple shows hitting Reading on the 12th and Southsea on the 20th. I even booked Santa to make a special appearance at the Roland’s Castle Golf Club.

I spent Christmas with Neal and my father-in-law on the Isle of Wight, and in between sorting out bookings and performing my own shows, I managed to pack on a few pounds as I ate my way through the Holidays. I’ve got until 30 January before I have to squeeze into my Tina Turner dress, so needless to say, I’m on a bit of a diet … and hungry as I’m writing this … LOL!

Alright, enough of my ramblings. Take a few minutes to enjoy the rest of this month’s newsletter! I wish you an EPIC new year and hope that it is beyond your expectations!

Award Nominations

We are proud to announce that Marlene Hillhas been nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical, in the Daily Echo’s Curtain Call 2015 Awards.  Marlene played Maybelle in the Portsmouth Players production of Hairspray and is described as having a rich and powerful vocalist.

The winners will be announced at a glitzy dinner dance at the Grand Harbour Hotel Southampton, Friday January 29th. We here at GME are rooting for Marlene all the way.

At GME we aren’t satisfied with one Award nomination asMayfield Studios have been nominated for Start–up Business of the Year! Mayfield Studios strive to provide the best possible recording experience, producing an end result exceeding client expectations. Gloria is a Director of Mayfield Studios and is thrilled with the nomination and will be attending the black-tie awards dinner along with co-Director, Dominic Elton on 12 February at the Portsmouth Guildhall.

GME spoke to Dominic who told us “Mayfield Studio is proud to be nominated for the Start-Up Business of the Year and see this nomination as recognition of the hard work that has gone into establishing ourselves as one of the best recording studios in Portsmouth.”

Mayfield Studios has supported major local events such as the Victorious and Fratton Road Festivals, as well as local bands through sound engineering and sponsorships.

All of us here at GME are rooting for Marlene and Mayfield Studios!
