GME News - November, 2015

Editor's Note

Welcome to the November edition of Gloria Miller Entertainment News and there's loads to tell you about what's been happening around here this past month.

For the past year I've been offering private vocal & performance coaching and I am now partnering with Mayfield Academy at Mayfield Studios for their Artist Development Program. Through this program, I will continue to offer vocal & performance coaching, plus I will be involved with songwriting sessions and song production for aspiring and emerging performers. We are now enrolling students into this program and if you know of anyone who might be interested in developing themselves either as a singer, musician or songwriter you can click here for more info.

On 16 October I judged the final of Southsea's Got Talent at The Jolly Sailor and that was one of the hardest nights of my life! There were 12 finalists and all are hugely talented so I wanted everyone to win, including several of my

Acts and vocal students who were participating. But, there could only be one winner, so me and my fellow judges had quite the job on our hands whittling the 12 down to just three.

I am thrilled to announce that the performer who placed first is a GME Artist. Now before you say 'fixed' just remember I wasn't the only judge ... LOL! Before I announce the winner, I must give a shout out to our lovely Gemma Anderson (left) who was a finalist and brought the house down with her Gospel song choice, Shackles. I must also mention the lovely Harriet Standen who is one of my vocal students. She did a very heartfelt version of Feeling Good showing off her soulful voice to this classic tune. Harriet won the Mayfield Studios songwriting competition and will be recording a 4-song album in 2016. I'll be working very closely with her on this project.

There were so many other standout performances at the final, and I wish I could tell you about all of them. So, who was the 1st place winner? Check out GME Act News to find out!

Lastly, on 22 October I attended the launch of the Portsmouth Venus Awards. Last year I performed at the Awards ceremony and was a Finalist for New Business. The launch was held at Changes Clinic in Portsmouth and the evening turned out to be a great chance to network and support other businesses. Changes offers some great surgical and non-surgical treatments for looking great and they performed demonstrations of several of their treatments at this event. I made sure to grab their contact info before I left cause, let's face it ... I'm not getting any younger.

Thank you for taking a few minutes to catch up on what we've been up to in October and please take a look at our Act of the Month and Special Offer.

That's it from me ...

And the winner of Southsea's Got Talent is ...

Congratulations to Russell Keith who won his semi-final heat and the entire competition! Russell wow'd the crowd with a very sexy version of Cry Me A River and had the judges right in the palms of his hands. Russell is the ultimate performer giving 100% to every performance and this is what pushed him over the top to win the competition!

As part of Russell's prize package, he will be recording a song at Mayfield Studios. We are very proud of Russell's accomplishment and wish him all the best with his very bright future in entertainment.

Congratulations are in order for the fabulous Bupsi Brown who made it to the Live Shows on The X Factor. Bupsi gave a powerful performance of Marvin Gaye's You're A wonderful One on the first live show on the 31st of October. Bupsi's star-quality was on full display on the show as she went up against a very strong group of competitors all fighting to impress the judges and the voting public.

Bupsi is the founding member of GME Act, The Midnight Soul Sisters and is always a crowd favorite whether she is performing solo or with MSS. You go girl!

August At-A-Glance

August started off with a bang as party band Move On Up took to the stage at Port Solent on the 1st and performed an extended 90-minute set to a capacity crowd at this fantastic outdoor event.

On the 8th Elvis made an appearance at Crown Bingo in Cosham for their special anniversary show. Original Band Mayfield performed to a standing room only crowd at the Wine Vaults on the 20th and the Alverbank Hotel hosted a sold-out double tribute night featuring Gloria Miller as Diana Ross and Tina Turner on the 21st. The Alverbank were absolutely a delight to work with and their guests really enjoyed the night's entertainment. Watch this space for the next Alverbank performance.

Gloria's other company, Mayfield Studios, were the sponsors for the Real Ale Stage at Victorious Vintage, and on the 29th & 30th we played hosts to some of the best talent in the UK. Over the two days the Real Ale Tent was bursting at the seams with music lovers packing in to see their favourite local band or to discover new music. Mayfield is looking forward to getting involved again at next year's event.

The last bank holiday weekend of the year was definitely a busy one and in edition of being involved in Victorious, Gloria was out in Lee-On-Solent as Tina Turner on Saturday night, and GME Artist Gemma Anderson was also in Brighton performing herWhitney Houston Tribute. On Sunday Gloria was back in Lee with party band Move On Up.

Act of the Month

Laura Nixon as Marilyn Monroe

Laura first started impersonating Marilyn Monroe at 16. She used to go to Jazz gigs quite a lot back then and at one show she saw a Marilyn impersonator, she wiggled on and the room fell silent. She sang “I Wanna Be Loved By You” and the audience went crazy. Laura knew straight away that’s what a wanted to do.

It has taken Laura years to perfect the hair, makeup and voice to be just like Marilyn, and all of her dresses are bespoke with a contemporary twist! Laura like’s to think they’re what Marilyn would choose to wear were she alive today.

In July 2004, Laura did my first ever corporate gig as Marilyn. She was hired by Chrysler to promote a new line of convertible cars and it was a fantastic event full of people, champagne and photographers! Laura had a ball portraying Miss Monroe.

This Act can be paired with Elvis Presley for their ‘Alive & Swinging’ Double Tribute Show!

Week in Review - 8 June 2015

The problem with having a 'marriage' anniversary and a 'wedding' anniversary is that inevitably, one of these dates will be forgotten ... and that's exactly what's happened. On 5 June 2010 Neal and I had a wedding the the States. However, we had already been married on 23 November 2009 and up until this year we have celebrated both dates. Does it mean that the honeymoon is over since we forgot our June anniversary? If my friend Andrea hadn't posted something on Facebook, I wouldn't have realized that 5 June had come and gone. So, happy belated wedding anniversary to the hubs.

Last week I started running again and I had such good intentions to get out for a long walk/run on Saturday since the weather is finally getting nice in England, but it just didn't happen. To be honest, after having had a late night performing with Mayfield on the Friday night, I was having difficulty wrapping my brain around the idea of exercising on Saturday, so it didn't take much to lead me to distraction. So I ended up spending the whole afternoon at Mayfield Studios working with a lovely Gospel singer from London called Keisha Cook.

My plan was to pop in for an hour or so and then head off for that walk; but once I got there I started coaching Keisha on vocals and then I arranged and recorded some backing vocal harmonies and before I knew it, 6pm had rolled around and I was still at the studio. Good thing, because I was just in time for a meeting with the band leader from Moonbomb who have asked me to do some backing vocals on their project. Watch this space.

Sunday I had a power rehearsal with Move On Up as we prep for our appearance at the Isle of Wight festival on Saturday. We will be performing our Simply, Tina Turner Tribute Show on the ElectroLove 80's Stage. Also on Sunday I picked up a last minute gig to cover vocals with Beau at The Phoenix in Copnor. There was a fantastic atmosphere in this venue and we had a great time singing and dancing together. That was a lot of singing for me this weekend so needless to say, I was quite tired when I finally got home Sunday night, but I was also invigorated because I remembered that as a young person just starting out with my musical dreams, my main dream was to do music full time. And now, music is all I do ... either booking it and/or performing it! Dreams do come true!

My weekly ExpressFM show, Glo's Music for the Soul, aired on Sunday night at 10pm and that show was all about 'Blue-Eyed Soul.' I featured Soul music from around the world from Artists who are not Black. I will post that show in next week's update. If you'd like to listen to previous shows, please click here.

Everyday Sunshine
Finally, a big shout out to Everyday Sunshine, one of GME's top Acts who were out doing me proud at a corporate event on Friday afternoon. This Duo is in great demand because of their high-energy performance, diverse repertoire and natural ability to make sure their audience is having a great time. They have some availability left this year, and we are also booking 2016. Please get in touch if you would like to book this or any GME Acts for your next event. We do private parties too.

That's it for this edition. If you're going to the Isle of Wight Festival, I hope to see you at the 80's stage. Otherwise, have a great week.
