At Gloria Miller Entertainment (GME), we love to support local worthy causes by donating our time for free. In November 2016, we helped three Hampshire-based charities.

Tribute for Charity featured Gloria Miller as Simply, Tina Turner plus five other tribute acts. The proceeds from this event benefited FareShare and The-Safe. Fareshare transform food destined for waste into nutritious meals for vulnerable people, and The-Safe provide counselling for parents coming to terms with stillbirths and miscarriages.

On November 11^th, Gloria Miller Disco Diva’s Solo Show helped raised an incredible £1,150 for the Breast Cancer Haven centre in Titchfield.

And, on 17^th March 2017, GME will help to raise much-needed funds for Hayling based Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation with a spectacular Motown Evening. Tickets are still available to click here to get yours today!

Getting to Know Tracy Ellis Ross, Daughter of a Legend!

I love occasionally stepping into the shoes of one of the most iconic performers of all time, Ms. Diana Ross, however I can’t imagine what it must have been like growing up in the shadow of such greatness. 

I read an awesome article by Emily Greener of Yahoo Style on Tracee Ellis Ross, and I love how Ellis Ross responded to Greener’s first question:

“You were very young when your mother Diana Ross’s solo career took off. What was your upbringing like?” Ellis Ross’s reply: “The national treasure that is Diana Ross is a dim light compared with who she is as a mother.” 

What an amazing legacy for Ms. Ross for her daughter to speak so highly of her. What this statement says to me is that there were no shadows just brilliant light, and that Ms. Ross, who for over five decades has consistently given her audiences her all, still managed to have plenty left to give to her children.

Ms. Ellis Ross, who credits her mom for paving the way for her career and her humanity, is a force to be reckoned with in her own right acting in independent films and hosting the pop-culture magazine The Dish on Lifetime, before landing the leading role as Jane Clayton in the comedy series Girlfriends in 2000 on the UPN/CW network. Since 2000 Ellis Ross has been a regular feature on US TV appearing in a variety of comedy series and TV movies.

After reading Greener’s article on Ellis Ross, who is an active Feminist, I feel like I’ve gotten to know her as her, and not just the daughter of Diana Ross. Ellis Ross speaks about wishing she knew that she was “enough” when she was a little girl. This is something that I’m just coming to grips with and I’m slightly older than the 43 year old actress.

Editor's Note - 1 July 2015

Billie & Neil

As I am writing this editor's note (that's what I''m calling this now), it's a lovely sunny day and I'm working outside in the garden. It's days like these that make me appreciate the flexibility of running my own business. Last week I was on a mini-break in Spain arriving back to the UK on Friday afternoon and stepping right into a very hectic weekend.

Starting with performing solo at a lovely wedding at the Salterns Harbourside Hotel in Poole on Saturday morning singing at the ceremony and wedding breakfast of Neil & Billie. The venue was lovely with it's waterside views, and the bride was gorgeous in her 50's style dress. Neil was looking quite dapper too dressed in his military uniform complete with more metals that could actually fit on the uniform. It was a delight to be a part of this special occasion and I have to share with you Billie's very nice testimonial:

Gloria is a superb artist and was admired by all on our special day with a potential booking from my inlaws. My father, who has been a jazz player for most of his life was extremely impressed with Gloria's talent. Gloria is such a wonderful person inside and out that I felt I had known her for a long time making our experience even more enjoyable. Gloria mixed well with all our guests and was liked by all. I highly recommend her for any event xx

Later on Saturday I was at The Jolly Sailor in Southsea with my party band, Move On Up. Thanks to the great weather we're having, the venue was packed with very enthusiastic people and we had a fantastic night playing a bit of Soul, Funk, Blues and more.

Then on Sunday I was back in wedding mode as GME was exhibiting and providing entertainment for a Wedding Show at Tiger, Tiger at Gunwharf Quay. It turned out to be a good networking event, and I made some good connections with some of the other vendors.

On Sunday afternoon, I performed a short Diana Ross Tribute set at the Thundercats Racing Event also in Southsea, then I finished up Sunday night singing with Beau covering the vocals for their regular singer. When I was driving to the gig I honestly didn't know where I was going to get the energy to do two 45-minute sets of very high energy music, but as soon as I heard that music from the very talented musicians I was sharing the stage with ... that was all I needed to get me through.

So when I finally woke up on Monday morning I was quite exhausted, but looking back over the weekend, I wouldn't have wanted to spend it any other way.

Week in Review - 11 May 2015

I'm baaaaaccccckkkkk! Did you miss me? It's been over a month since my last update so I've got loads to report so ... here we go!

On 11 April Supremely, Diana Ross made an appearance at a Charity Event in Southsea for their Motown Night to raise money for several children's charities. Then I was off on the final cruise of the Seabourn Legend with the hubs. While Neal was preparing to perform his two shows on board, I spent the week sipping Champagne, taking lovely walks in exotic places and eating way too much food. The highlight of the trip was the evening excursion to the Amphitheater in Ephesus where Seabourn had arranged a lovely classical music concert under the stars with the ancient ruins of the amphitheater as the backdrop! The evening was surreal. I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming.

Note to self, do not go on a luxury cruise where there is food and drink in abundance before you have to wear a form fitting gown and a fringe mini-dress! LOL! On 24 April, less than a week after getting back from the cruise, I was at The Cliffhanger Cafe in Poole debuting my double Tribute Show, Diana Ross vs. Tina Turner, and I just managed to squeeze into my costumes for the show! That was the first of several of these shows I've got booked throughout the year. I absolutely loved performing both shows in the same night, but I didn't take into account how hard it would be. I was deliciously exhausted afterward. Thankfully, I was headed to The Anthem of the Seas for their inaugural cruise the next day!

Neal did his show the night we joined the ship, so we ended up having a bit of a holiday the remaining days we were on board. We were in awe of this obnoxiously large ship! We were only on for four days and I got lost on that ship everyday. It was definitely not the same cruising experience I had on the Seabourn ship with its 6 decks compared to the Anthem's 16 decks.  I definitely prefer the smaller ships, but am thrilled to have sailed on The Anthem, because I did get to go roller skating and Neal went skydiving ... on the ship!

On Sunday, 10 May, Glo's Music for the Soul debuted on ExpressFM. This show has been in the works since late last year, and finally, the first show aired. This will be a weekly show airing on Sunday nights at 10pm. Once my web page is setup on the ExpressFM website, I will let you know.

April was an exciting month for me as I again had the chance of treading the boards to play the role of Motormouth Maybelle at the Grand Opera House, Belfast in St. Agnes' Choral Society's production of "HAIRSPRAY". For those who are unfamiliar with this high spirited musical, it is set in 1962 Baltimore. Tracy Turnblad is a big girl with big hair and an even bigger dream: to dance her way onto national TV, and into the heart of teen idol Link Larkin.(Read More)

I am so proud of all Marlene's accomplishments so far this year, and there are more great things ahead for this talented performer.

Week in Review - 6 April 2015

Not much to report on the past week. Just a normal work week in the office getting caught up on paperwork, contracts and sorting out new events.

Thursday was the third heat of Southsea's Got Talent and I just may have to quite judging these heats because the talent is soooooo amazing this year that being a judge is extremely stressful. Sadly, the organizers won't let us put everyone through so we usually have to narrow it down to 3 or 4 people being put through to the semi-finals. We had 9 competitors ranging from solo performers to duos to instrumentalists, even an amazing 11 year old, each one bringing something fresh and unique to their music. We had 4 winners this heat and thankfully, each of the judges agreed on the top 4 performers.

In the UK this past weekend was the Easter Bank Holiday, so I decided to take Friday and Monday off ... from the office at least because I still had gigs on Friday and Saturday! Friday was Motown/Soul Night at Phoenix Community Centre in Crookhorn, and Saturday I was in Horsham shaking my tail feather as Tina Turner at the Lintot. Because of the long weekend, my audiences were well up for having a good time and we definitely did. There was dancing, singing and for the first time ever, more men on the dance floor than ladies on Saturday night at the Lintot. At one point I had 5 guys in front of me singing 'I'm Every Woman' ... that was a sight to see!  Loved it!

On Easter Sunday I was off to the Isle of Wight for some family time with the hubs and in-laws and we had a lovely lunch by the sea. Then on Monday, I really had the day off ... I didn't look at emails or even open my computer the entire day. What?? That was awesome. And to finish off a lovely day being unplugged and had dinner with my good friend, and one of GME top Acts, Marlene Hill for a belated birthday dinner.

Week In Review - 30 March 2015

I'm baaaack ... after a much needed mini-break to Spain last week. Due to the fact that I was unplugged for a few days, I didn't write a blog for last week's newsletter. Did you miss me? One less thing to have to read, right?

So here are some highlights from the week of 16 March through today ...

On Tuesday, I was at The Spring in Havant shooting a promotional video for my Diana Ross Tribute Show. My video team, led by Emma Stock, were absolutely amazing with making sure we had good shooting angles, that the lighting and sound were just right, and that we used the time well to get all the footage we needed, and then some! A special thanks to The Spring's Production and Technical Manager, Ian McInally for being on hand to assist with the lights, sound, smoke machine and even a fabulous Disco Ball! I will share the finished video in a couple weeks. Watch this space.

On Friday, I sat in with Beau, a great Funk, Rock band at a venue in Stubbington. For the night, they renamed the band 'The Glo'! How nice of them.

On Saturday, I performed at a 40th Birthday Party at Amfield Golf & Country Club which turned out to be quite the Soulful event. I even hit the dance floor after my set was done, which couldn't be helped really due to the jammin' setlist DJ Paul Mico was throwing down.

Here's what the birthday girl had to say about the entertainment:

"I booked Gloria as a solo act for my 40th. What an outstanding performance from her singing soul songs selected by me..it was a great lead into the soul disco I had arranged also. Then on Sunday it was off to not-so-sunny Spain for a few days of R&R. I didn't mind that it wasn't sunny, cause that forced the hubs and me to stay in and actually rest. We returned home on Thursday and then I was off to the races on Friday with Performance Coaching sessions at Mayfield Studios and a Diana Ross Tribute Show in the evening at the Carisbrooke Arms in Gosport. This is a regular venue for me, and as usual the crowd was ready for a good time, and that's exactly what we had! Shout out to fellow Move On Up band member, Graeme Lewis, for doing sound for me.

On Saturday, my newest show, Simply Tina Turner was performed for the first time with Move On Up backing me, and we had a right rowdy time at The Jolly Sailor. As fate would have it, the Portsmouth Backlight Run finished just before we started the Tina Turner set, and what seems like the entire contingency of runners crammed into The Jolly for a pint. The place was heaving with people. Then Tina made her appearance and the place went absolutely mad! I don't think the runners planned on staying the night, but many of them did and were still there as we were packing up to go home!

Saturday was a busy day for GME with two of my Acts also out performing. Marlene Hill performed at the Noah Mapalo Help Centre charity event held at the The John Pounds Centre in Southsea, and The Coasters performed at the business launch event for Crunch Time Catering at Southsea Castle.

Finally, on Sunday the Frankie & Glo Duo performed a bit of Acoustic Soul at The Jolly Sailor for a lovely, laid back afternoon. Honestly, I wasn't sure how I was going to get through this gig cause I was quite exhausted from performing Tina Turner and then a equally high-powered second Move On Up set the night before. Frankie, lead guitarist in Move On Up, seemed fine on Sunday (he is much younger than me ... LOL), but I wouldn't have made it at all had the hubs not agreed to be my driver and roadie.

Needless to say, but I need another holiday after that fast-paced weekend! But, alas, no rest for the weary as I was back in the office on Monday playing catch after being out of the office for a week, yet basking in the afterglow of having had an amazing weekend of performing! I wouldn't have it any other way.

Week In Review: 9 - 15 March, 2015

I've been performing my Diana Ross Tribute Show for almost two years now and at the moment, it's my most requested show. I thought it might be time to have a proper promo video so I have arranged to shoot that video on Tuesday, 17 March. On Wednesday of this week I met with videographer Emma Stock and her assistant at The Spring to prepare for the video shoot. We are using The Spring's main stage to film, and with their fantastic sound, lighting and even a smoke machine, I think I will end up with a great video.

Performance Coaching Session

On April 1st I will be officially launching my Performance & Music Business Coaching service and will be offering private tuition at Mayfield Recording Studios. On Friday I offered some taster sessions and coached three very talented vocalists focusing on performance, repertoire, and competition prep. Fraankie & Glo Duo

On Friday I performed a solo gig at The Piranha Bar and somehow found the strength to be entertaining after coaching all day, and squeezing in rehearsal with my duo partner, Frankie Lewis to prepare for our first Duo gig which was on Saturday at The King St. Tavern. I had a small, but very appreciative audience at Piranha Bar and a lovely crowd to sing to at King St. The Frankie & Glo Duo is now officially launched, and we couldn't have asked for a better venue for our debut. We have two confirmed bookings for the Duo at The Jolly Sailor on the 29th of March and the 28th of June. Save the dates!

Sunday, Mayfield performed a hard-hitting set at March of the Mods at The Face Bar in Reading. This was Mayfield's first gig of the year and a great way to kick-off what is shaping up to be a very busy year of festivals and gigs across the UK. We performed songs from our current release, Tempo of Your Soul, and a few new tunes that we are currently recording for our next release. Week In Review: 16-22 February 2015

I had a rare Monday booking where Supremely, Diana Ross made an appearance at the Portsmouth Pride Fest Showcase held at Three Bar in Southsea. The evening was hosted by Drag Artiste, Linda Bacardi and Chairperson David Lee-Bastable was also on hand to officially open the event.

Other acts performing on the night were Blokezone, The Blues Brothers by The Disco Divas, & One for The Road! There was certainly a Variety Show feel about the evening, and all the acts were united in one purpose - to show their SUPPORT for Pride.

I will also be performing my Diana Ross Tribute show during the main Pride event on the 20th of June at Victoria Park with performances at the Portsmouth Guildhall. For more information on this event, click here.

On Tuesday, I took a cheeky day off and spent the afternoon with the hubs and in-laws on the Isle of Wight, and it was a bonus that it was sunny too!

Wednesday I had band rehearsal with Mayfield in the lovely Mayfield Studios. In between prepping songs to record for our second album, we have some shows coming up that we're preparing for, the next one being March of the Mods in Reading on the 15th of March. Thursday Move On Up performed our first gig of the year at The Wine Vaults in Southsea, and as usual we had a fantastic crowd that sparked us on to give a high-energy performance of Soul, Funk, Blues & Rock classics. We will be back at The Vaults on the 16th of July. Save the date.

On Friday I had a vocal coaching consultation with a prospective new student in the morning, and then headed to Southampton for my Social Media Class.

All week I was nursing a bit of a head cold, but on Friday the cold starting fighting back so I had to cancel my vocal session with Mayfield that was scheduled for Saturday, and spent the entire weekend in bed just trying to feel better.

Week In Review: 9-15 February 2015

This week was quite busy with a variety of inquiries ranging from charity events to tribute shows, many of which have turned into bookings! Check out our Facebook page to see a listing of upcoming public shows.

Monday the 9th was just another day in the office tackling my never-ending to-do list. On Tuesday, I attended the Business & Enterprise meeting at The Purple Door in Portsmouth. B&E is a work stream of Shaping Portsmouth, and we outlined our overall mission for 2015 as well as set up subgroups to manage the various programs we are undertaking this year. I volunteered to work on the Business Support Bank project which is a structured program where business mentors volunteer their time and start up companies and existing businesses are able to connect with a mentor.

On Wednesday, I was off to rehearsal with Mayfield as we prepare for some upcoming shows, including our first show of the year at March of the Mods in Reading on the 15th of March! This promises to be a great show with some amazing bands in the lineup. Tickets are still available, so click here for more information!

On Friday, I headed up to Leeds for a gig with The Midnight Soul Sisters. Diana Ross made an appearance along with Beyonce & Tina Turner. This event was for our band leader's mum, Veronica, who was celebrating her 60th birthday. There were tears, singing, dancing and lots of delicious food throughout evening. I stayed overnight after the party in a very posh 4-star hotel. I had to pry myself out of the bed on Saturday morning before heading back to Portsmouth to get ready for my Simply, Tina Turner show on Valentine's Night! We had an absolute blast at Cosham Conservative Social Club. We started the show shaking our tail feathers to Tina Turner, and ended my part of the entertainment with my Disco Diva's set!

This was my second time performing at this venue, and they definitely know how to have a good time. My favorite part this time was when I finished my last encore and the DJ played Thank You for the Music. The guests all surrounded me and started singing this song to me ... I thought, what a lovely Valentine to have all that love and appreciation directed at me.

Speaking of Valentine, my lovely husband surprised me with a dozen red roses. He had two days of travel starting on Friday to get home from Argentina so I was not expecting anything. As I was getting out of the taxi on my way home from Leeds I noticed a box on the front step. My first thought was that my husband had bought yet another magic trick (he's a comedy magician), but much to my delight the box was for me!

Sunday was truly a day of rest and recovery from a very busy weekend. I caught up on my favorite TV shows and had a bit of Chinese takeaway for dinner. All in all, I had a fantastic week indeed!

Week in Review - 30 January 2015

Dreams do come true, and since moving to the UK five years ago, here are a few that have come true for me ... singing all across the UK & Europe; hearing myself recorded on vinyl, running my own business and the latest one, being a partner in Mayfield Records. I am delighted to be a part of this dynamic new record company and studio in the Portsmouth area and my role mainly be in the areas of marketing and promoting the studio, as well as A&R for the record label. The studio launched in November of last year, and there's already quite a buzz of activity in the studio with several local bands and singers taking advantage of the 50% discount that was offered for the launch.

I was in the studio on Tuesday recording vocals for my covers band, Move On Up, and will be back on Saturday to record a song for Mayfield's new album that will be released later this year. I felt right at home recording in this state-of-the-art facility, and the sound quality is quite fabulous!

On Wednesday we launched a competition for the studio where you can enter to win a chance to record a fully mastered EP.  The prize winner will receive free recording sessions at Mayfield Studios to include recording engineer and full use of studio services and facilities. The prize will allow the winning entrant to record an EP (4 tracks) fully recorded, edited, mixed and mastered by Mayfield Studios.The entrants will not be restricted by musical genre and can include individual singer/songwriters or bands!

The competition is open to the first TWENTY valid entrants, and applications must be received no later than March 31st 2015. Applications must be made on-line via the Mayfield Studios website. Click here for more information or to enter!

At the end of December I moved into my very own office at the Cathedral Innovation Centre and over the past year their support of GME has been invaluable with being allowed to use the Hotdesking area before moving into my office, and the many contacts I've made through their networking events. They also provide me with admin support from their two apprentices. To show my appreciation, I will be performing at a charity event on the 21st of March at the Blue Lagoon Function Suite in Hilsea to help raise money to extend the apprentices's contracts. Anyone who runs their own business will appreciate how thankful you are whenever you are able to have a little help with those time consuming, but oh so necessary daily tasks. Yasmin and Bethany have helped me on so many occasions, so I am asking for your help to keep them employed with CIC for another year. This will be one of the only chances to see my Supremely, Diana Ross Tribute Show performed in the Portsmouth area, so why not join me for a bit of tea, cake & Motown! Week in Review - 24 January 2015

Me @ National Venus Awards

The highlight of the week was being able to sponsor the entertainment and perform at the National Venus Awards on Friday! What an inspirational event and it was a real honour to be in the room with so many amazing women in business.

This was my third Venus Awards event, having performed at the Portsmouth Awards ceremony where I was also a finalist in the New Business Category and GME solo performer, Marlene Hill performed at the Oxford ceremony. It was great working directly with the founder of this great organization, Tara Howard, on song selection for the National event kicking off the festivities with 'Simply The Best.' Tara also outlined her vision to take the Venus Awards Global promoting women in business around the world! Her talk made me want to dream bigger for GME.

It was also a real pleasure connecting with Jenni Steele, the National Ambassador for Domestic Violence UK. Jenni presented an award as well as delivered an excellent talk about her experience with domestic violence as a young person and encouraged us all to be the 'lioness' within our respective 'prides!' I had a chat with Jenni a couple days before the event and we arranged for me to sing 'I'm Every Woman' before her talk!

The other two keynote speakers of the event were Dr. Lynda Shaw, a registered chartered psychologist who talked about the differences between the male and female brain; and Julia Hands, Chairman & Chief Executive of Hand Picked Hotels, who's lovely Audleys Wood was where the event was held. She spoke about being brave enough to change careers from being a Solicitor to Hotelier and about saying yes to an opportunity when it presents itself, even if you don't feel like you can do it, which is exactly what she did in 2001 when she took over management of Hand Picked Hotels. They now have 21 country house hotels across the UK and Channel Islands.

The rest of the week was quite routine with meetings and of course looking for performance opportunities for my Acts. On Thursday, I started a 12-week in-depth Social Media Course taught by David Vane of Workzmarter! The course is run by Opportunities Workshop!

Week in Review - 16 January 2014

Spain

As I write this week's edition I am sitting on the Veranda of my lovely hotel room in Spain enjoying the afterglow of my first gig of the year at Le Cabaret just outside of Moraira. Through the wonder that is Google I was contacted by this venue that did a search for a Diana Ross Tribute and here I am having a mini-break because honestly, this hasn't at all felt like work! I flew to Alicante very early Saturday morning (I was up with the chickens) and on Saturday night entertained a room full of British ex-pats at this fabulous revamped venue run by Mike Lee and Valerie Sheehy! I have been given the 'star' treatment, which I could easily get used to! Every detail of this booking has been seen too with the utmost care and I am enjoying the glorious sunshine before I had back to England tonight.

I performed my Diana Ross Tribute Show along with my Disco Divas show and every available floor space in the venue was turned into a dance floor. The highlight for me was when I was singing Amy Winehouse's 'Valerie' and a gaggle of ladies started screaming and headed to the dance floor. They were so raccous that I finally had to ask what they had them so worked up, and it turned out that one of he ladies was called 'Valerie' and she was dancing up a storm! So I grabbed her and we had a little boogie together! After the show Valerie pulled me to the side and told me that she was a cancer survivor and that was the first time in 18 months that she felt strong enough to get up and dance. Then she hugged me and thanked me profusely for giving her the opportunity to dance because she used to be a dancer. It is these types of moments that make what I do a sheer joy! 

What a way to start the year and if the rest of my shows go half as good as this one, I am in for a fantastic year of performing! We've already discussed having me back again, as well as some of GME's acts! I'll keep you posted as these shows develop!

In other news, on Monday I attended the first Cultural Partnership meeting of the year which is a work stream within Shaping Portsmouth, and is made up of business leaders and individuals involved in the arts in the Portsmouth area who play a vital role in cultivating a strong cultural image for the city. Since Portsmouth is my adopted city, and is s rich soil in which to grow GME, I want to do my part in giving back to my local community and the Cultural Partnership work stream affords me many opportunities to get involved, not just in areas of music but in the arts as a whole.

On Thursday, Dominic Elton of Mayfield Studios and I met with the organizers of Victorious Vintage to discuss ways that the studio can get involved with this year's festival! Victorious is a massive event for Portsmouth and Mayfield Studios and GME are looking forward to supporting this event. Watch this space for more details.

The rest of the week was spent organizing the entertainment for weddings and private events as well as putting the final touches on the brand new GME website that will be launching in the next few weeks!

Week In Review - 9 January 2015!

I hope you had as lovely a Holiday Season as I did because honestly, taking those two weeks off was just what I needed to reflect on a very productive 2014 and set my intention for what I hope will be a stellar 2015! I have to confess there's a bit more of me to love, because I certainly didn't miss a meal during those two weeks, and I happily indulged in all those yummy foods that I tend to stay away from during the year. I am paying for it now having to work out like a mad woman so I can get into that lovely Diana Ross dress for my first gig of the year next weekend!

When I say I took two weeks off, that's strictly from admin work. I was performing quite a bit and ended the year with a bang by performing four mini sets of my Diana Ross Tribute Show at four different venues on New Year's Eve! It seemed like a good idea when I said yes to doing this type of booking, but I had no idea how exhausting it would be. It was interesting to see how the demeanor of the crowd changed at each venue. 

At the first venue I went on just after 8pm and the night was young, people were just starting to get their drink on so the mood was laid back and mellow. Venue two, and hour later and the crowd was a bit livelier as the liquid courage was just starting to kick in. I get to venue three and this crowd was marinated just enough to think I was the real Diana Ross and gave me the rock star treatment complete with being followed around and trapped by the pappirazzi with a line of people wanting a photo!

Then it was off to my final venue ... I arrived just before 11pm and the crowd was totally baked and well up for anything. I could have stood their barking and they would have loved it! I didn't, but I could have. I had a great time at each venue and was done at 11:30 and back home and in my onesie just in time to watch the count down and the fireworks on the telly. A special shout out to the hubs who was my driver, sound person & body guard for the night! I would not have survived without him!

Also during my Christmas hiatus, Mayfield Recording Studio was launched! I am so proud to be associated with this amazing venture and the buzz is already starting about this brand new, state-of-the-art recording facility located in Portsmouth. There have already been a few recording sessions at the studio, and Mayfield the band was in on the 2nd of January recording the first track for our second album due to be released later this year. It was hard getting back to work on Monday, but moving into my very own office space at the Cathedral Innovation Centre in Old Portsmouth made it a bit exciting. I've been hotdesking at this location for the past year, and now the Gloria Miller Entertainment Ltd. office is now open for business. The space is proving to be quite the boost to productivity as this week I added quite a few bookings to the diary. Let's hope this keeps up!

On Thursday I had a meeting with Ross from the Jolly Sailor about Southsea's Got Talent, and I am happy to be returning as one of the judges for the competition that is going to be bigger and better as it goes into its third year. The first heat will be 5 February! Watch this space for more info. 

On Friday I did my first music business coaching session with a new client. Last year I started doing some vocal coaching and this year I am diversifying that service to include music business coaching as well. I will be officially launching this service later in the year in partnership with Mayfield Studios Tuition Services. More details to come ...

Finally, on Saturday I am off to Leeds for two days of intensive rehearsals with The Midnight Soul Sisters as we prepare for our promo video shoot and the growing schedule of upcoming shows!  I'll put up a good fight against the battle of the bulge this weekend as I try to turn one of my two left feet into a right foot and learn all the dance moves required for these shows. I had a look at the routines we'll be learning, and this is going to be a hard couple of days, but well worth it 'cause these moves will look amazing once it's all put together! I'll post the promo video when it's finished!

Week in Review - 21 November 2014

I am so thankful for a much needed easy week! Not that much to report, so let's dig in! On Monday I attended the Shaping Portsmouth Conference held at The Pyramids in Southsea featuring a fantastic lineup of speakers including the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Cllr. Steven Wylie, Jonathan Goring of Ben Ainslie Racing and Stef Nienaltowski, Chair of Business & Enterprise with Shaping Portsmouth to name a few.

Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday of this week I was in the office getting caught up on paperwork, working on Marketing with Creative Click and putting the finishing touches on my radio show, Glo's Music for the Soul, which will be aired on One World Radio next week! Speaking of radio shows, I've been in talks with ExpressFM to start a weekly radio show beginning in January! Watch this space for more details on my new terrestrial show as well as the on-line version!

Also, on Tuesday I had a great rehearsal with my original Soul band, Mayfield in preparation for our show at The Jolly Sailor on Saturday! We'll be debuting our latest song, 'Do What You Want With Me' along with performing songs from our current release, Tempo of Your Soul. I have featured our single, 'Ready, Set, Go!' on the radio show which is one of the new songs going on our second CD, Keep On!

Also thanks to having a light week, I've been able to put the finishing touches on the 60's version of Supremely, Diana Ross which I will be performing on Friday at Rock Zombie in Dudley with Jacqui Carroll of Ready Steady Go! Red Embers

On Saturday, one of Gloria Miller Entertainment's top bands, Red Embers, will be performing at a private event at The Lake Yard Club in Poole. Formed in August 2012, Red Embers are a group of musicians who have a real passion and intimate sensibility for jazz. Still a young band, Red Embers have that passion to succeed, and to make music that moves people by taking old and new tunes and making them their own.
